Quick tips to boost your energy

I used to think that being tired all the time was just part of motherhood.

Don't get me wrong...there are seasons of motherhood that ARE just being tired (like those first new days, strings of nights with bad dreams or tummy bugs). BUT I no longer believe that being tired = being a mom. There comes a point when you can no longer blame your tiredness, unhappiness or stress on being a parent. We all have similar stresses for the most part, yet some moms seem to breeze their way through it while others struggle. WHY IS THAT?! The moms that seem to have it easier take time for themselves. Yep - that's it! They've adjusted their mindsets & their reality is that there IS time...they just need to make it & prioritize themselves in that space. Check HERE and HERE for how to do that... But for now, here are a few healthy habits you can start right now that will boost your energy in the next week. Eat more whole, healthy foods!! Pack in the veggies, whole grains, healthy fats & top them with delicious toppings (salsa, pesto anyone?). The better you eat, meaning more foods from produce & less packaged foods the better you're going to feel. Our bodies are not made to eat processed foods filled with sugar, salt and unhealthy fats. They cause energy crashes that make our energy & good moods come to a screeching halt. Bulk up on the good stuff & your body will thank you...so will your mind!

Manage your stress

Stress is a HUGE energy suck. If you can manage it in a healthy way, you'll see an instant spike in your energy. Figure out what the main source of stress is...get detailed about it. Then brainstorm several ways you can reduce or deal with this stress. It might be as easy as exercising more, or it might be limiting time with a certain friend. Whatever it is, deal with it head-on & do what it takes to reduce your stress. Feel free to shoot me an email if you need help with this!

Cut back on sugar! No one likes to hear it but it's true. The quicker you cut back (note, not get rid of 100%...moderation mama!) the more alert, clear headed & energized you'll be. Trust me...it's enough of a change to make you not WANT to get back. Click HERE for more on how to cut back on sugar. Get your exercise! I want you to MOVE! Go for a walk with the dog, a bike ride, run up the stairs or play soccer with your kids! I don't care what you do, as long as you keep moving. Take advantage of getting up a bit early for a quick walk around the block, use your lunch break for a 15 minute yoga stretch or go hard on your spin bike before dinner. Whatever fits into YOUR schedule...make it happen! Movement = energy. The more you do it, the more you NEED to do it...it's addicting! Go to bed 30 minutes earlier. I know this is your time without the kids, but going to bed just 30 minutes earlier will pay off more than you realize. Try a calm yoga routine or gratitude practice before bed to calm your body, nerves & mind. The better quality sleep you can get, the better you'll feel the next day. None of these are earth shaking...but they work. You don't need a fad diet, or some new & improved course. What you need is to get back to the basics. Eat well, get exercise & quality sleep. Even in the days when you can't get quality sleep, the other 2 will carry you through. Do 1 thing today that makes you better & healthier than yesterday. Every bit counts! And remember...MODERATION, not perfection mama. You are amazing...keep at it! Erica xo
